A simple lead for everyday use. This lead comes in standard or extra long. The latter is made up from two strips of leather. The handle is attached to the main lead to give the additional length.
We have also added the option to have a ring in the lead handle. This can be an advantage as the trigger clip can be clipped to the ring in the handle for shortening the lead or to loop the lead over your shoulder while your dog has a run around!
Crafted from 3 - 4.5mm English bridle leather and fitted with a British cast, trigger clip a handy ring in the hand loop is offered as an additional option. The metal fittings can be in either solid brass or nickel plate.
The lead also comes in a variety of widths from 1/2" (12mm) to 1" (25mm), please be aware that a 1" lead is not suitable for everyone as it can be quite bulky in your hand.
As standard our leads are completely made by hand from the initial cutting out to the final polish. All items we produce are also hand stitched, with leads the thread we choose to use is braided polyester as we have found this tends to last much longer than linen threads which will rot due to salt water (we are based near the coast) and the amount of wear the lead receives. See how they are made here.
This lead is available as standard approximately 4ft (122cm) or long approximately 5ft (152.5cm). The longer lead is produced by stitching the handle into the lead.
Occassionally the standard lead may be slightly shorter at around 3' 11" (119cm), this is due to the lead being cut from a new hide which is intitally a little short. The upside is that although you may receive a lead a little shorter you are receiving the best leather!
Please do note that the red leather (apologies red is currently unavailable)will turn brown eventually and all the colours do darken with age. This is due to dirt and grease getting into the leather. How long this process takes completely depends on how much wear and tear the lead receives. While we take every precaution to ensure colour fastness we cannot guarantee some colour transfer may occur.
